MSU Golf Finishes Strong At UK Bluegrass Invitational

Patrick Newcomb turned in a 25th place performance for the Murray State golf team at the UK Bluegrass Invitational over the weekend at The University Club of Kentucky in Lexington.
Patrick Newcomb turned in a 25th place performance for the Murray State golf team at the UK Bluegrass Invitational over the weekend at The University Club of Kentucky in Lexington.
Newcomb, who became only the second MSU winner of the Kentucky State Amateur in the summer, carded rounds of 75-72-75=222 to place 25th in a field of 82 competitors.
Wade Thompson finished 40th for MSU with scores of 77-76-73=226, while Hunter York's scores of 76-77-76=229 brought a 53rd place finish. Dustin Gosser had scores of 81-84-75=240 and finished 80th, while Chasten Howard placed 87th in his first collegiate event with scores of 83-88-77=248.
MSU's William Hunt played the tournament as an individual and had MSU's low score of the three rounds with a 1-under=par 71 in round two. His scores of 71-77-80=228 were good for a 49th place finish.
The Racers placed 14th with scores of 309-309-299=917.
Host Kentucky was the winner with rounds of 296-281-287=864, ahead of runner-up Dayton who had scores of 294-286-288=868. Wright State (875), Marshall (877), Austin Peay (885), Eastern Kentucky (887), Valparaiso (892), Belmont (895), Youngstown State (897) and Morehead State (901) rounded out the top-10 squads.
The University Club played to a par of 72 and 6,988 yards.
MSU's next challenge is the Cardinal Intercollegiate at the Cardinal Club in Louisville, Ky.. Sep. 26-27.
