Jillian Russell and Shauna Wicker each scored goals in the final 10 minutes, scoring within 3:30 of each other to eliminate a two goal deficit as Murray State rebounded to score a 2-2 draw with UT Martin Friday afternoon in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for each school at Cutchin Field.
Russell's strike came at 82:50, collecting a ball in the left side of the box after an attempt from Jenelle Cunningham on the right side careened off the top of the left post. Her shot to the lower right corner of the net went past the UTM goalkeeper to cut the lead in half and give Russell her first goal of the season.
Wicker responded three and a half minutes later as the Racers were attacking deep in the Skyhawk's defensive zone. With the ball along the left end line, Russell connected on a perfect low cross to the far post where Wicker redirected with a header to the left side of the net for her team-leading third goal of the season.
UT Martin opened scoring in the 32nd minute as Dominika Conc rebounded a blocked save and shot a line drive to the upper right corner of the net.
The Skyhawks doubled their lead just after halftime. Rosaelia Loza took a pass in the middle of the box, fighting off a pair of defenders to turn and shoot into the lower right corner at 48:04.
The Racers out-shot Martin on the day, holding a 19-15 advantage. MSU carried momentum into the overtime sessions, taking six shots to UTM's two, including a three shot to zero mark in the second overtime period.
Lauren Kelly entered in net for Murray State after halftime, earning the decision by making two saves on three attempts.
The Racers continue OVC action this weekend, hosting Southeast Missouri Sunday, Sept. 25. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m
