OVC Release
The Murray State Racers will again appear at the CFSB Center in ESPN's Sears BracketBusters (Feb. 18), part of the largest pool of teams in the 10-year history of the event.
The Sears BracketBusters is a three-day men's college basketball event pitting potential NCAA Tournament hopefuls against each other. Although all teams play, 26 of them will be chosen to be on 13 nationally televised games on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU or ESPN3.
142 teams are in the 2012 field, up from 114 in 2011 with 16 conferences participating.
The Racers have enjoyed success in the event and have an overall mark of 5-2 after beating Evansville last season. MSU's first game in the series was a win at Rice in 2005. They followed with a home win against Illinois-Chicago in 2006. In 2007, MSU won a game at Rider, but lost at home in 2008 to Indiana State and at home to Louisiana Tech in 2009. In MSU's 31-win season in 2010, MSU defeated Morgan State at home.
For the sixth straight season, all 11 teams from the Ohio Valley Conference will be part of the event. OVC teams getting home game this season include: Austin Peay, Eastern Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State, Murray State and SIUE. The teams going on the road include: Morehead State, Southeast Missouri, UT Martin, Tennessee Tech and Tennessee State. Last season the OVC was 6-4 in the BracketBusters series and have an overall mark of 25-41.
A major part of the Sears BracketBusters is the agreement that each match-up will have a return game at some point in the following two seasons after they first play. The Racers are returning their game to Morgan State this season (Nov. 14). Last season, the Racers hosted Evansville and will play at the Purple Aces home court in the future.
The pairings for the Sears BracketBusters will be announced Jan. 30.
