Softball Slotted 7th In 2012 OVC Preseason Poll

Murray State softball was selected to finish seventh for the 2012 Ohio Valley Conference in a vote conducted by the league's coaches and sports information directors, the conference announced Wednesday.
The Racers earned 109 points in voting, occupying the seventh position in the preseason poll for the second consecutive season. MSU finished sixth in the OVC in 2011, earning a trip to the OVC Championships for the second time in the program's existance.
Jacksonville State was the overwhelming favorite to win the league this season, picking up 14 first place votes and 190 total points. Eastern Illinois earned 162 total points and a pair of first place votes to follow in second. UT Martin picked up three first place votes in third place with 159 points.
SIU Edwardsville (139 points), Southeast Missouri (132 points) and Tennessee Tech (117 points) each were awarded a first place vote in being ranked fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively.
Eastern Kentucky was two spots back in eighth behind Murray State with 75 points, followed by Morehead State in ninth (61 points), Austin Peay in 10th (37 points) and Tennessee State in 11th (24 points).
The Racers open the 2012 season one month from today, traveling to the Dickey's Barbeque Pit Invitational in Hattiesburg, Miss.
