Baseball Signs Three

Murray State head baseball coach Rob McDonald has announced the signing of Apollo High School teammates Matthew Johnson and Dalton West, as well as Jeffersontown's Cody Maerz. The trio will enroll in the Fall and begin playing for the Breds for the 2013 season.
Matthew Johnson, INF, 6-0, 180, Owensboro, Ky. (Apollo)
Four-year letterwinner for head coach Bob Mantooth at Apollo High School...helped the Eagles to a 27-10-1 record and a trip to the state quarterfinals as a junior...hit .348 with 13 doubles, 20 RBIs and 18 stolen bases...went 3-1 with a 1.77 ERA on the mound...earned all-district and all-region honors as a sophomore and junior...named to the Junior West All-Star Team after sophomore season...selected to the Kentucky State High School Team competing in Chicago in 2009...member of the Owensboro Southern Little League team that advanced to the 2005 Little League World Series...also a three-year letterwinner in football.
Dalton West, C, 6-0, 180, Owensboro, Ky. (Apollo)
Four-year letterwinner for head coach Bob Mantooth at Apollo High School...helped the Eagles to a 27-10-1 record and a trip to the state quarterfinals as a junior...selected as the Region 3 Player of the Year in 2011 after hitting .431 with 11 doubles, six home runs and 39 RBIs...garnered all-state laurels and named the team MVP...selected to play in the East/West All-Star Game in 2010 and 2011.
Cody Maerz, RHP, 6-0, 180, Louisville, Ky. (Jeffersontown)
Played for head coach Scott Fluhr at Jeffersontown High School...went 7-7 with a 3.25 ERA in 75.1 innings as a junior...earned All-District 28 honors...selected to District 28 and Region 7 All-Tournament teams...also a member of the golf team.
