Softball Announces 2012 Schedule

Three early season tournaments and a 14-game home stand near the end of the season highlight the 2012 Murray State softball schedule, announced by head coach Jay Pyron Wednesday.
The Racers return 11 players from last years' squad after the program graduated its first senior class, with nine new additions joining the squad for the 2012 season.
The Racers open the season Feb. 18-19, playing four games at the Dickey's Barbeque Pit Invitational in Hattiesburg, Miss. MSU will play games against Southern on Feb. 18 & 19, host Southern Miss. Feb. 18 and Belmont on the 19th.
The next weekend finds Murray State staying in Kentucky for four games at the Holiday Inn University Plaza Hilltopper Spring Classic in Bowling Green. The Racers will meet host Western Kentucky Feb. 24 with games against Indiana State and a non-conference contest against OVC-member Morehead State on Feb. 25, and will close out the weekend with a game against Bowling Green Feb. 26.
The Racers travel to Knoxville, Tenn. Mar. 2-4 for the Tennessee Classic. MSU plays Eastern Tennessee State Mar. 2, Boston and an exhibition game against the Dutch National Team Mar. 3, and Middle Tennessee State and Tennessee Mar. 4.
Additional non-conference action includes home games against Middle Tennessee State, Campbellsville, Bethel and Samford, while the Racers will hit the road for games against Arkansas, Arkansas Pine Bluff and Memphis.
Ohio Valley Conference action kicks off Mar. 10 as the Racers travel to Nashville for a series against Tennessee State. Other road series in conference play include games at Eastern Illinois, Tennessee Tech, SIU Edwardsville and Eastern Kentucky.
The Racers play their first home games of 2012 on Mar. 17, hosting Jacksonville State. Murray State will also play home conference series against UT Martin, SIU Edwardsville, Morehead State, Austin Peay and Southeast Missouri.
