Racers Lead By Four Shots At MSU Invitational

The Murray State Racers took a four-shot lead on Union (TN) and Lipscomb after the postponed first round of the MSU Invitational field was finished at Miller Memorial GC in Murray, Ky., Tuesday morning.
Led by Tyler Brown's 2-under par 69, the Racers put together a 5-under 283 in round one. Hunter York and Patrick Newcomb each carded an even-par 71, while Preston French finished with a 72. Jordan Smith came home with a 78.
Brown's 69 led the field of 74 competitors ahead of a trio of 70's from Brett Barry and Kody Alexander of Union (TN) and Lipscomb's Blanton Farmer. York and Newcomb were in fifth place, while French was in 11th and Smith was in 43rd place.
Union and Lipscomb shared second place each with a 287, while UT Martin had third place at 288.
The ninth annual MSU Invitational was scheduled for 54 holes, but bad weather on Monday forced the event to be reduced to 36 holes as the first round was halted by darkness last evening. The final round is underway as of 11:30 a.m. at Miller GC.
The Racers' second team was in 12th place in the field of 14 teams at 311. Brock Simmons led the way with a 76 for a spot in 34th place, while Duncan McCormick carded a 77 for a spot in 37th. Daniel harper scored a 78 and was in 43rd place, with Wade Thompson and Jared Gosser sharing 54th place after each posted an 80.
Travis Thompson is playing the event for MSU as an individual and was in 37th place with a 77.
