Racers Drop Heartbreaker on Senior Day

The Murray State soccer team showed a ton of heart and resiliency on Sunday afternoon at Cutchin Field, but in the end, dropped a heartbreaker in the season finale to Morehead State 2-1.

Through much of the second half it appeared that the Racers' (4-12, 2-7 OVC) final game of 2012 would end in a loss after Kimberly Golden's goal in the 53^rd minute gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead. However, in the 89^th minute Jenelle Cunningham extended the game for Murray State as she deposited her second goal of the season into the corner of the net to knot the game at 1-1. Cunningham's shot came off of a Julie Mooney shot that was deflected.

Morehead State responded early in the overtime period however on an incredible shot by Teig Palmateer, as she scored just two minutes into the extra frame on a free kick from nearly 40 yards out.

The two squads were even all day as both teams recorded twelve shots in the contest, including seven on goal. Bronagh Kerins and Mooney would lead the Racers with three shots each, both were also two of seven Racers to record shots on goal in the loss.
Veronika Pribyslavska had two shots in the contest, Cunningham, Racheal Foxley, Rachel Walker and Shauna Wicker had one shot a piece.

Murray State played all three of its goalkeepers in the game. Latesha Stevenson got the start in net and recorded one save while playing 34 minutes. Lauren Kelly, making her last appearance as a Racer played the final 11 minutes of the opening half and also recorded one save. Yi Du played all of the second half and overtime for the Racers and recorded two saves.

Sunday was Senior Day at Murray State as six Racers were playing their final matches in Murray, Ky. Cunningham, Ashley Fraser, Stephanie Gale, Kelly, Gina Killion and Pribyslavska were all honored prior to the start of the match.
