Breds Open Fall Practice With Plenty of New Faces

The Murray State baseball team opened fall practice with plenty of new faces on the roster. The Breds will go through team practice before returning to their four-man groups the remainder of the semester.
The Breds roster features 11 new players, including six pitchers and five position guys. From this group, seven are freshman.
The group joins 14 returning starters from a team that finished the 2011 season 23-33 overall, and 8-19 in Ohio Valley Conference action.
Mason Barber, RHP, 6-0, 180, Fr., Mt. Juliet, Tenn. (Mt. Juliet)
Two-year letterwinner for head coach Mark Purvis at Mt. Juliet High School...helped the Bears to back-to-back district, regional and sectional championships.
Sheldon Baxter, LHP, 5-11, 160, Fr., LeCanto, Fla. (LeCanto)
Four-year letterwinner for head coach Robert Cummings at LeCanto High School...selected as the team MVP and all-county all four years...went 8-4 with a 1.38 ERA as a senior...also hit .493 at the plate...was 6-4 with a 1.99 ERA and a .425 average as a junior...went 9-5 on the mound over his first two seasons.
Andrew Bramley, RHP, 6-3, 200, Fr., Louisville, Ky. (Pleasure Ridge Park)
Two-year letterwinner for head coach Bill Miller at Pleasure Ridge Park High School...helped team to back-to-back district and region championships...went 7-2 with a 0.81 ERA as a senior...was 6-0 on the mound as a junior.
Cashtyn DeLeeuw, RHP, 6-0, 200, Jr., Grimshaw, Alberta, Canada (Indian Hills Community College)
Two-year letterwinner for head coach Cam Walker at Indian Hills Community College...earned honorable mention honors after going 7-2 with a 2.79 ERA...struck out 81 over 77 innings...was a second-team all-region selection as a freshman after going 7-2 with a 4.34 ERA...fanned 52 over 45.2 innings...Played club baseball and team won the provincial championship and competed in the national tournament.
Greg Guest, INF, 6-0, 170, Jr., Nashville, Ill. (Rend Lake College)
Two-year letterwinner for head coach Tony Etnier at Rend Lake College...hit .337 as a sophomore...named to the all-academic team...four-year letterwinner for head coach Chad Malawy at Nashville Community High School...earned all-conference honors as a senior after hitting .482 and setting a school record for stolen bases...earned the team defensive award as a junior...also lettered in football and basketball.
Matthew Johnson, INF, 6-0, 175, Fr., Owensboro, Ky. (Apollo)
Four-year letterwinner for head coach Bob Mantooth at Apollo High School...helped the Eagles to three district championships and a pair of region titles...four-time all-district selection...earned all-region honors his last three years...named honorable mention all-state as a junior and senior...also lettered in football.

Played for head coach Bill Storrs at Prairie State Community College...went 6-2 with a 1.67 ERA in 22 games as a sophomore...led the region with 10 saves...two-year letterwinner for head coach Pete Lofus at St. Lawrence High School...helped the Vikings capture the Chicago Catholic League championship as a senior...earned all-conference honors after posting a 1.91 ERA and saves...selected to the all-area team as a junior after going 6-4 in a team-high 18 appearances.
