MSU Golf Signs Trimble & Van Meter

Murray State women's golf coach Velvet Milkman announced the signing of Sydney Trimble and Jackie Van Meter who will be freshmen with the Racers in the fall of 2013.
Trimble joins the Racer golf program from Heath High School in Paducah, Ky., while Van Meter hails from South Warren High School in Bowling Green, Ky.
“I am very excited to have Sydney and Jackie join the Racer golf family,” Milkman said. “They are very good players and young women of high character. Both will be good representatives of our university on and off the course and I anticipate both of them having very good careers at Murray State.”
Sydney Trimble – Heath HS – Paducah, Ky.
Coming out of Heath High School, Trimble fired a score of 77 to place fourth in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Region-I Tournament last fall. She added a fifth place finish at the KHSAA State Tournament with scores of 77-73=150.
Trimble qualified for the KHSAA state tournament the last six seasons while setting the career scoring record at Heath. Her senior year scoring average was 73.7.
Trimble won the Graves County Invitational with a 71 and had a second place showing at the Hopkins Central Invitational with a 73. She won the Kentucky All-A Regional Tournament for three straight years and as a senior placed second at the All A state tournament with a score of 73 where she lost in a four hole playoff for the title.
Last summer Trimble won the high school division of the Drake Creek College Showcase with scores of 77-74=151 and she won the Mark Mullins and Country Club of Paducah junior championships. She finished third at Kentucky Junior Amateur with scores of 75-72=147 and recorded two runner-up finishes on the Golfweek Junior Tour.
“Sydney is very athletic and has the most upside potential of just about anyone to play in our program,” Milkman said. “I feel Sydney began showing signs of her true potential this summer and into her senior high school season. As she gains more tournament experience she will develop into a very successful collegiate player.”
Jackie Van Meter – South Warren HS – Bowling Green, Ky.
Out of South Warren High School, Van Meter was named the 2012 Kentucky Golf Association PGA Junior Player of the Year after a tremendous summer where she won three times. She won the Golf Week Callaway Junior Qualifier with scores of 73-72=145 and she took the title of the National Big-I Qualifier with scores of 79-73=152 and the KJGA Gay Brewer Tournament with scores of 76-79=154.
Van Meter won the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Region-IV Tournament as a junior in 2011 with a score of 75 and finished second at the KHSAA State Tournament with scores of 76-72=148. She finished ninth in 2012 with scores of 79-75=154.
Van Meter earned KHSAA All-State honors the last two seasons.
She won eight high school tournaments in during her South Warren career and had a scoring average of 76.3 in her senior season.
“Jackie is a steady player and has outstanding fundamentals,” Milkman said. “She has been successful during her high school and junior careers and has proven that she can win. Jackie has a competitive spirit and the tournament experience she's already gained will help her to be successful at the next level
