Racer Golf Shares Lead At Gulf Shores - Newcomb One Shot Back

The Murray State men's golf team had a share of the lead after 36-holes at the ASU Fall Beach Classic at Peninsula Golf and Racquet Club in Gulf Shores, Ala.
The Racers carded scores of 292-296=588 and shared the lead with Stephen F. Austin and one shot ahead of Vanderbilt at 589.
MSU's Patrick Newcomb paced the team with a pair of 71's for a 142 and a spot in second place in the field of 70 players, while Hunter York was in 12th place after scores of 72-76=148. Preston French and Tyler Brown shared 15th place with French shooting 75-74=149 and Brown had scores of 74-75=149. Jordan Smith was in 56th place with rounds of 80-80=160.
UALR (594), Troy (601), Southeastern Louisiana (602), Rice (605) and Nicholls State (606) made up the top-8 of the event. New Orleans (607), Arkansas State (610), Texas Pan-Am (612), Illinois State (613) and UT Martin (620) made up the rest of the 13-team field.
Newcomb will be trying to win the medalist of the Arkansas State event when he starts Tuesday's final round one shot behind SFA's John Luke Sheehan who had scores of 72-71=143.
The Peninsula course is playing to a par of 72 and 7,165 yards.
The final round Tuesday starts at 8 a.m.
