Racers Finish Fall Season at Arkansas State

Erin Patton placed third and Carla Suga had a fourth-place finish to lead the Murray State women's tennis team over the weekend at the Arkansas State Red Wolf Invitational.
After receiving a first round bye, Patton lost her first match of the weekend to Arkansas-Little Rock's Christel Amsallem in three sets, 3-6, 6-1 and 7-5. In the third-place match Patton defeated SEMO's Jess Courtnell 6-4 and 7-6.
Suzaan Stoltz won the consolation final at the Red Wolf Invite. Stoltz lost her first matchup with Arkansas State's Chiara Stefanov 6-1 and 6-3. Stoltz responded with a victory over Stephanie Gonzalez of UCA, 6-2, 6-1. In the consolation final, Stoltz was victorious over ASU's Sofia Krsmanovic 6-2 and 6-1.
Suga won her opening match over Central Arkansas' Allison Murphy in a close 7-5, 7-6 decision. Suga was then defeated by Janie Nowland of Arkansas State in the semifinals 6-1, 4-6 and 6-2. In the third-place matchup, Suga was beat by Southern Illinois' Natasha Tomishima 7-5 and 6-1.
Ashley Canty lost her first match to Ivon Simic of UT Martin, 6-2, 6-3. In her consolation matchup, Canty was defeated by UCA's Simona Horsikyan 6-2 and 6-3. Megan Blue lost her first round match to Biljana Milosevska of Arkansas State 6-4 and 7-6 and was also defeated by UCA's Krizia Buck 6-2 and 6-2.
Carolyn Huerth lost her lone match of the weekend to Michaela McShane of UALR, 2-6, 6-1 and 6-0.
In doubles play, which was a round robin format, the doubles team of Blue and Canty went 1-3 over the weekend and gained a victory over UT Martin's Simic and Herbold 8-3.
The duo of Patton and Suga had a solid doubles portion of the weekend, going 3-1 with 8-0, 8-4 and 9-8 victories over SEMO, UALR and UCA, respectively. Huerth and Stoltz was the third and final tandem of the weekend and went 2-2. The duo defeated UT Martin's McCall and Van Zyl 8-6 and won 9-8 over Heeps and Krsmanovic of ASU to end the weekend.
This was the final tournament of the fall for the Racers as they will be off until February when they will once again head to Jonesboro, Ark., for a dual with Arkansas State to begin the spring season.
