Murray State junior center fielder Paul Ritzheimer delivered a walk-off single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Breds a 2-1 victory over Valparaiso Saturday afternoon at Reagan Field.
Dylan Wheeler started the ninth inning by blooping a double in front of a diving left fielder. After a groundout and a lineout put the runner on third with two outs, Ritzheimer followed a Mike Kozlowski walk with the line drive into left center.
The Crusaders (1-1) got on the board in the third inning as back-to-back bloop singles put two on with one out. After a strikeout, Andrew Bain singled into right center to score the runner from second.
The Breds (1-1) tied the game in the fifth as Mike Kozlowski hit an opposite-field double into the right-field corner. After a groundout moved the runner to third, Colton Speed drove in the run with a fielder's choice groundout to first.
Starter Cameron Finch (1-0) earned the victory by tossing his first career complete game. In only his second career start, Finch allowed one run on seven hits, with three strikeout. Mike Jacobs (0-1) took the loss after surrendering one run on two hits over two-thirds of an inning.
Wheeler paced the offense by going 2-for-4.
The two teams close out the three-game series tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
