Murray State had its best offensive outing of the season as the Breds pounded out 15 hits in completing a three-game sweep of South Dakota State with a 12-4 victory Sunday afternoon at Reagan Field.
The Breds (5-3) got on the board in the first inning as Ty Stetson drew a leadoff walk and came around to score on a Travis Isaak double into the gap in left center.
MSU got the bats going again in the fourth as Brandon Eggenschwiler doubled to the base of the fence in right field. After a wild pitch, Cody Larson plated the run with a single to center field. Dylan Wheeler singled to right center to put two on for Stetson to deliver a two-run triple to left center.
The offense continued in the fifth with Jacob Rhodes singling through the right side and Mike Kozlowski following with a base on balls. After a sacrifice bunt, Larson and Dylan Wheeler followed with back-to-back RBI singles. Later in the inning, Stetson plated his third run of the game with a single to left, just ahead of Paul Ritzheimer's RBI fielder's choice.
The Breds kept the offense rolling in the sixth as they pushed across four more runs as they batted around for the second time in as many innings. A single from Kozlowski, followed by a walk and a hit batter loaded the bases. Wheeler was then hit by a pitch to force in the first run, before Daugherty, Stetson and Ritzheimer each hit RBI singles.
The Jacks (0-3) finally got on the board in the eighth as Eric Cain delivered a sacrifice fly to left field, ahead of Nick Andrews' three-run home run to left field.
Tim Vonder Haar (1-0) picked up his first career victory, tossing 5.2 innings of shutout baseball. He allowed just two hits and struck out five. Layne Somsen (0-1) took the loss after allowing one run on one hit and four walks over two innings.
Stetson led the offense by going 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Larson, Wheeler and Daugherty each added two hits. Ritzheimer, Larson, Wheeler and Daugherty each drove in a pair of runs.
The Breds return to action Tuesday afternoon as they welcome Western Kentucky to Reagan Field. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
