MSU's Delaney Howson took fifth place in a field of 54 competitors Tuesday at the Morehead State Ocala Invitational at Juliette Falls Golf Club in Ocala, Fla. Her scores of 71-73-73=217 gave her a total of only 2-over-par for the 54-hole event and allowed her to get a spot on the all-tournament team.
Morgan Cross rallied to an eighth place finish with scores of 73-75-70=218, while Alli Weaver placed 17th with scores of 79-74-73=226. Alexandra Lennartsson had MSU's best round of the event in round one with a 2-under-par 70 and finished with scores of 70-76-82=228 and had a spot in 20th place. Sophie Olley placed 40th with scores of 80-82-80=242.
As a team, the Racers went into the final round tied for the lead after scores of 293 and 298, but their 296 in the final round dropped them to fourth place with an 887 total and seven shots behind winner Stetson at 880. Appalachian State finished third at 886, just behind runner-up Morehead State at 884.
The rest of the field included: Jacksonville State (895), McNeese State (931), Western Kentucky (937), Florida Atlantic (944) and Ohio (948).
MSU's Gina Nuzzo played the event as an individual and placed 51st with scores of 84-83-85=252.
MSU's next challenge is the John Kirk-Panther Intercollegiate hosted by Georgia State (March 26-27) at Eagles Landing GC in Stockbridge, Ga.
