The Murray State Racers fired a team 320 in the first round of the NewWave Communications Racer Classic at Miller Memorial GC in Murray, Ky., and held a one shot lead on Drury University.
MSU is trying for it's fifth straight win in their home event.
The Racers were led by Delaney Howson who had 79 and was in third place. Alexandra Lennartsson and Alli Weaver shared fourth place after each posted an 80. Morgan Cross was in sixth with an 81 and Sophie Olley was 14th after an 83. Olley also had the only eagle of the day in the event.
The Racers had the lead with a 320, while Drury (321), Southern Illinois (324), Marshall (333) and Eastern Kentucky (334) made up the top five. Jackson State (351), Lipscomb (358) and Tennessee State (377) made up the rest of the field.
Murray State's Gina Nuzzo played as an individual and was in 31st place with an 87, while Claudia Schwan was in 36th after a 90. Madolyn Parker was in 50th with a 105.
Drury's Katrina Choate had the individual lead after a 74.
The Racers and the field of seven other teams had to battle windy conditions and the scores revealed what a tough day it was as only three players in the field of 51 broke 80.
The event wraps up Monday with the final 18 holes with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
