Hunter York Takes 5th - Earns All-Tournament Honors At Samford

Hunter York of the Murray State men's golf team earned all-tournament honors with a fifth place finish at the Samford Intercollegiate at Hoover Country Club in Hoover, Ala.
York led the Racers with scores of 76-69-74=219 and finished fifth in a field of 93 players.
The Racers carded scores of 312-298-302=912 to finish in ninth place in a field of 18 teams and ahead of 10th place Eastern Kentucky (917) and 11th place Air Force (921). MSU trailed eighth place Houston Baptist (907) and seventh place Belmont (904).
Other MSU scores included: Patrick Newcomb 17th with scores of 76-76-73=225. Tyler Brown had rounds of 79-76-78=233 for a spot in 46th place, with Wade Thompson finishing 61st with scores of 82-77-77=236. Joe Scholl had an 88th place finish with scores of 81-81-86=248.
Host Samford was the winner with an 882 total, with Austin Peay (891), Davidson (891), Sam Houston State (893) and Winthrop (904) rounding out the top five.
The field of 93 players competed on a Hoover CC course that played to 7,001 yards and to a par of 72.
MSU's next action is at the Grover Page Classic(March 12-13) at Jasckson Country Club in Jackson, Tenn.
