Racer Tennis Takes On OVC Championship Challenge

The Murray State Racers are ready to play in the 2012 OVC Tennis Championship this week in Nashville, Tenn., at Centennial Sportsplex (April 20-22).
The MSU men's team is the No. 5 seed facing No. 3 Eastern Kentucky Friday at 10 a.m., while the Racer women's team earned the No. 3 seed and face No. 6 Morehead State Friday at 2 p.m.
The OVC Tennis Championships return to Nashville for the first time since 2008 this season after being held in Paducah for the last three seasons.
The men's tournament is being held for the 64th time since the first one in 1949 and the women's event has its 36th playing after it was started in 1977.
The MSU women have won six championships Racers will be looking for their first title since 2007. The MSU men have won 20 times and look for their first win since 2002.
The Racer women enter the tournament with five straight wins from the 4th and 5th singles slots. Carla Suga has played the four slot and has season mark of 19-12, while Carolyn Huerth has played the five position and is 21-13. MSU's No. 1 singles player Cassidy Cunitz is 13-18, while No. 2 Ashley Canty has an 18-17 mark, followed by Jordana Klein at No. 3 with a 17-19 mark.
MSU's doubles efforts have been strong this season in posting 40 wins.
The MSU men's team enters the post-season trying to find a spark after a 5-12 regular season and a 3-5 mark in OVC play.
