Patrick Newcomb Named All-OVC Men's Golf First Team

Patrick Newcomb was named to the 2012 Ohio Valley Conference Men's Golf First Team Thursday evening during the year-end awards dinner at Greystone Golf Club in Dickson, Tenn.
His selection makes four straight seasons that Murray State has placed a student-athlete on the OVC First Team.
Newcomb, a junior from Benton, Ky., was one of the most solid performers from start to finish in the 2011-12 OVC season. He entered the OVC Championship tied for the scoring lead at 72.4 which puts him in the top 125 in the nation. Newcomb came off a summer of 2011 in which he was named the Kentucky Golf Association Player of the Year and kept it going from the fall right into the spring of 2012.
Newcomb started the 2011-12 season with a win at the Murray State Invitational (Oct. 4) with scores of 68-70-67=205. He won the Grover Page Classic in Jackson, Tenn., (March 13) with rounds of 71-72-74=217 and then last week (April 17) he ran away with the TSU BLig Blue Intercollegiate with scores of 73-69-67=209. Along the way, Newcomb has scored six top-5 finishes including a fourth place showing (March 25) in Boca Raton, Fla., at the FAU Spring Break Intercollegiate with scores of 72-71-67=210.
He was named the OVC Golfer of the Week five times in the 2011-12 season.
When the OVC Championship is finished the, Newcomb will be one of the candidates for OVC Golfer of the Year.
