Murray State softball suffered its first loss of the weekend to Tennessee Tech, dropping a 4-0 decision Saturday afternoon at the Tech Softball Field in Cookeville, Tenn.
The Golden Eagles (15-21, 9-9 OVC) scored their first runs of the weekend in the bottom of the third as Melody Christian reached on an infield single to shortstop and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. She would move to third on an outfield single by Cassie Garrett and scored on a deep foul-out down the right field line. Another single up the middle from Chanelle Spalding would score Garrett from third as TTU would take a 2-0 lead into the fourth.
The Racers (15-13, 10-7 OVC) would give up a single run in each of the fourth and fifth innings to increase the Tennessee Tech advantage to 4-0. With runners on the corners, the throw down to second on a stolen base attempt ended up in center field, allowing Tyler Templet to score from third on the play.
A base hit up the middle in the fifth would score Kendall Hooper from second for the game's fourth and final run.
Shelby Kosmecky (7-7) suffered the loss for Murray State, lasting 2.1 innings while allowing a pair of runs on four hits and a walk. Chelsey Sullivan gave up a pair of runs, one of them earned, on five hits in 2.2 innings on the day while CheyAnne Gaskey tossed a perfect sixth inning.
Holly Thomas (11-10) struck out 10 on the day for Tennessee Tech, blanking the Racers while allowing three hits and a walk in seven innings pitched.
Megan Glosser, Leslie Bridges and Sarah Anderson were the only Racers to record hits on the afternoon as TTU held a 9-3 hitting advantage.
The Racers return to action Tuesday afternoon at Racer Field, hosting Middle Tennessee State for a pair of non-conference games.
