Sophie Hillier Joins MSU Women's Golf

Murray State women's golf coach Velvet Milkman announced the signing of Sophie Hillier of Bedfordshire, England.
Hillier joins the Racer program in the fall as a freshman.
“I am excited to have Sophie become a member of the Racer Golf family,” Milkman said. “She's a talented player that has a significant amount of tournament experience. I look for her to make an immediate contribution to our team.”
Hillier comes to MSU from Bedford Modern School. She is currently Captain of the Junior Section at John O'Gaunt Golf Club, and was Captain of the Bedfordshire County Girls' Team in 2011.
Bedfordshire Girls Champion in 2010 and Bedfordshire Schools Champion in 2011, she qualified for the 2011 and 2012 English Schools South East Region Girls Championships. Hillier was placed seventh at the 2011 EWGA East Girls Championship with scores of 75-79=154 and fired a 74 in qualifying for the 2011 St. Andrews U23 Open, where she reached the quarterfinals. At senior level she was selected for the Bedfordshire County Ladies First Team in 2010 and 2011 and took second place at the 2011 East Anglian Championship scoring 73-77=150.
“Sophie is a person of high character and an excellent student,” Milkman added. “I look forward to watching her success both on and off the golf course during her career at Murray State.”
Hillier joins Abbi Stamper (Frankfort, Ky.) in the Racers' 2012 class.
