York Wins Drake Creek College Showcase

Murray State golfer Hunter York claimed the championship of the Drake Creek College Golf Showcase in Ledbetter, Ky., Sunday when he won on the first hole of a playoff with Ryne Burnett (Lindsey Wilson) and Travis Ross (Freed-Hardeman).
The showcase, which also featured a women's field of college players and high school boys and girls, was the inaugural event at the par-72 Drake Creek Golf Club.
York, from Benton, Ky., and a senior for the Racers in the fall, made par on the 18th hole which was the first playoff hole, while Burnett and Ross each made bogey.
York got into the playoff after rounds of 72-71 for a total score of 1-under-par 143. Burnett carded rounds of 69-74, while Ross had scores of 72-71.
Other Murray State players in the field included Patrick Newcomb who is also a senior in the fall at MSU. Newcomb had rounds of 72-72=144 and missed the playoff by one shot. Chasten Howard had scores of 70-78=148 to finish sixth, while Travis Thompson had a 10th place showing with scores of 76-78=154. Andrew Mitchell placed 12th with scores of 84-80=164.
Incoming MSU women's golf freshman Abbi Stamper finished 12th with scores of 78-79=157, while returning sophomore Gina Nuzzo placed 13th with scores of 81-84.
