Murray State sprinter Alexis Love hopes to continue her recent fast ways this week when she competes in the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
At Drake Stadium, Love will compete in the NCAA semifinals Wednesday (June 6) at 7:30 p.m. in the 100 meter run and 5:45 p.m. Thursday (June 7) in the 200 meter run.
Two weeks ago at the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville Fla., Love set a Murray State and Ohio Valley Conference record in the 200m with a time of 23.09. Her time is the 11th fastest among those 24 competitors that have advanced to the NCAA final week. The fastest time was a 22.22 from LSU's Kimberlyn Duncan.
Love's 100m run of 11.37 at the NCAA regional is 12th among those competing this week. The top time of 11.06 was posted by English Garner of Oregon.
If Love, a junior from Palmetto, Fla., can finish among the top-8 in the semifinals in each of her events, she'll advance to the finals. Particularly, Love must finish first or second in her heat or be among the next two best times to get the finals. The 100m final is at 6:02 p.m. Friday (June 8) and the 200m final is at 11:47 a.m. Saturday (June 9).
Love has been outstanding my any measure in the 2011-12 season. She was the OVC Female Track Athlete of the Year and earned USTFCCCA Second Team All-America Indoor honors and was named the top performer at the OVC Outdoor Championships.
By her efforts this spring, Love has already secured a spot in the USA Olympic Trials in both of her events (June 21-25/June 28-July 1) in Eugene, Ore., at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon.
