Emme Performs At USA Shooting National Championship

Kelsey Emme arrived on campus last August as a freshman with the Murray State Rifle team and has had a year to
remember.
In one short year, she has established herself at MSU and continues to impress, even on days that can best be described as "distracting".
Kelsey is competing this week at Fort Benning, Ga., in the USA Shooting National Championships for Smallbore and Air Rifle. She completed the smallbore portion of the match Friday, which in this Olympic year, served as the US Olympic Team Trials for smallbore.
Competing against the best that this country has to offer Kelsey finished the three day event in 17th place overall. She finished
fourth in the junior division and had the second best junior final with a 98.0, just two tents of a point behind the best final at 98.2.
"It was a day of distractions, but I think I handled them pretty well", said Kelsey.
"Big matches are all about blocking out the distractions and shooting the way you train,” MSU Head Coach Alan Lollar said. “Kelsey had two distractions today she had to overcome. The first was a target malfunction that meant she had to change positions on the range. The second was when she pulled through on the trigger and shot before she meant to. The shot was a zero value. This means her score was basically eight to ten points lower that it could have been. Those things happen."
Emme came back after her mistake and she shot a nine and four straight tens to finish standing. She performed well in recording a 194 in the kneeling position. She made the final in fourth place even dropping the shot in standing.
Kelsey explained her goals going into the final. "We try to do two things in the final, catch the person in front of us and shoot the
best final. I feel good about my final. Now I'm looking forward to air rifle."
Kelsey will compete in the air rifle competition on Sunday and Monday.
