Racer Golf Has Two Weekend Wins At Rolling Hills & Oaks

Murray State Golf scored a pair of wins over the weekend when Racers' women's assistant coach Chris Griffin won the Rolling Hills Invitational in Paducah, Ky., and Hunter York, a senior with the men's team was the winner at the Oaks Invitational in Murray, Ky.
Griffin, a Paducah native, just completed his second season as assistant to head coach Velvet Milkman.
Griffin, who last played for the Racers on their Ohio Valley Conference title team in 2010, fired rounds of 69-68 to win by three shots with a 7-under-par 137. He scored five birdies and two bogeys in round one before making three birdies, one eagle and one bogey in the final round.
York's senior teammate, Patrick Newcomb (Benton, Ky.) placed 12th with a total of 146.
Another pair of former Racers had high finishes. Josh Rhodes (Paducah,Ky.) finished in a tie for second at 140, while Grant Price (Paducah, Ky.) placed fourth at 141..
YORK TAKES OAKS INVITATIONAL TITLE
Hunter York (Hardin, Ky.) won the Oaks Invitational title with scores of 70-65=135 which was enough for a five-shot victory.
The MSU senior in the fall, York made an amazing 10 birdies in the final round.
Former Racer Josh Burks (Mayfield, Ky.) placed fourth with rounds of 71-71=142, while current MSU player Travis Thompson (Benton, Ky.) was second in the first flight with rounds of 74-69=143. Incoming MSU freshman Daniel Harper (Murray, Ky.) placed sixth with scores of 76-67=143.
York and incoming freshman Jared Gosser (Russell Springs, Ky.) were set to begin play Monday in the Kentucky Golf Association's Match Play Championship in Prospect, Ky.
