Incoming Racer Golf Freshman Gosser Advances At KGA Match Play

Murray State's Jared Gosser put on quite a show Tuesday at the Kentucky Golf Association Match Play Championship in Prospect, Ky., at Hunting Creek Country Club when he won two matches to advance to the quarterfinals.
Playing Andy Roberts (Owensboro, Ky.) in the first round, Gosser was tied with his opponent through six holes.
Starting with a birdie at the seventh, Gosser eventually opened up a 5-up lead when he made back-to-back birdies at the 10th and 11th holes. The incoming Racer freshman closed the match to win 5&4 with a birdie at the 13th and a par at the 14th.
Gosser (Russell Springs, Ky.) was even for the 14 holes played and made five birdies to advance to the round of 16.
Gosser was the 23rd seed of the 32 competitors that advanced to match play after 36 holes of stroke play on Monday that determined seeding. He carded rounds of 75-78=153. Roberts was the 10th seed.
Gosser advanced to the round of 16 in the afternoon where he defeated Cameron Fields (Bowling Green, Ky.) 19-up to make a date in Wednesday's quarterfinals. His opponent will be the 15th seed Jantzen Latham (Central City, Ky.)
Jared Gosser will follow his brother Dustin to MSU this fall. Dustin Gosser just finished his collegiate career for MSU Coach Eddie Hunt last spring.
MSU senior Hunter York (Hardin, Ky.) also qualified for the match play with scores of 75-72=147 and earned the spot as the seventh seed. He was defeated in the first round of match play by 25th seed Erik Davis (Smithfield, Ky.) 2-up. Former Racer Josh Rhodes (Paducah, Ky.) was the 20th seed after scores of 77-75=152, but also lost in the opening round match play to 13th seed Hunter Frazier (Lexington, Ky.) 2&1.
Gosser plays 15th seed Jantzen Latham (Central City, Ky.) in the quarterfinals on Wednesday at 7:10 a.m.
