The unquestionable leaders of the 2012 Murray State defense will be the linebackers.
The group is led by preseason all-conference outside linebacker Qua Huzzie. In his first season as a Racer, Huzzie led the OVC with 14 tackles-for-loss. He finished the year with 80 tackles, three sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery that was returned 24 yards for a touchdown.
Playing opposite of Huzzie is transfer Corey Addison. Addison went through spring practice after coming over from South Carolina. Rated as a three-star recruit by Rivals.com and Scout.com, Addison appeared in 13 games over the previous two seasons, marking 10 tackles.
Junior Blake Salter will open the season as the starting middle backer. Salter appeared in all 11 games last season, earning the start in the middle against Louisville. He had his most productive season in 2011 as he recorded 33 tackles. He posted a season-high seven stops against EKU.
Sophomore middle linebacker Fred Harvey joins the Racers after spending two years at Memphis. He was rated as a three-star recruit coming out of high school and was named the scout team player of the year as a redshirt in 2010.
Freshman T-Ray Malone comes to MSU after earning all-region honors at Smyrna High School. He posted 69 tackles, two sacks and four interceptions as a senior.
