Racer Soccer Holds Blue-Gold Scrimmage At Cutchin Field

The gold team came away with a 1-0 win over the blue team Saturday afternoon when the Murray State women's soccer team held their annual Blue-Gold scrimmage at Cutchin Field in Murray, Ky.
The only goal of the contest game seven minutes into the first half when freshman Meg Hudson scored unassisted.
After leading 1-0 at the half, the gold team nearly made it 2-0 with 22:40 remaining, but Jenna Finke's shot went off the right goal post.
The blue team's best chance to even the match came with 4:45 remaining, when Pavlina Nepokojova gathered for a shot at the center about 20 yards out, but her shot was blocked by Halle Pinkham.
“Here at the start of training camp we've focused on defending and you saw today that only one goal was scored,” MSU Head Coach Beth Acreman said. “So hopefully something is working there for us. We do have things that we have to clean up, but only a week into camp we've been coaching the defensive side of the ball the most. The next few days' focus will be on what we actually want to look like when we have the ball.”
The Racers host a pair of exhibition games in the coming days when Illinois State comes to MSU Wednesday and Middle Tennessee visits (Aug. 12). Each contest begins at 1 p.m.
“I chose to have two exhibition games this season because we're a young team,” Acreman said. “We've have two full games to look at our players more. We have the stipulation that all of our players must pass the fitness test before they get on the field, so we're looking at those who're physically ready right now.”
