Newcomb Wins West Kentucky Open Championship

Murray State golfer Patrick Newcomb scored a three-shot victory Sunday in taking the 2012 Texas Roadhouse West Kentucky Open Championship at Drake Creek Golf Club in Ledbetter, Ky.
Newcomb (Benton, Ky.) carded scores of 67-66=133 to get past Michael Odenthal (Rockfield, Ky.) who had scores of 70-66=136.
Other current Racers in the field included Daniel Harper (Murray, Ky.) who finished seventh in the championship flight with scores of 69-75=144, while Hunter Ford (Hardin, Ky.) placed eighth with scores of 71-74=145. Duncan McCormick (Morganfield, Ky.) placed 12th in the first flight with scores of 74-76=150.
Three former Racers were in the field of 13 professionals at Drake Creek, including Cameron Carrico (Owensboro, Ky.) who placed second with scores of 67-73=140. Nick Newcomb (Benton, Ky.) placed fifth with rounds of 70-72-142, while Hunter Ford (Paducah, Ky.) was seventh with scores of 72-72=144.
Several former Racers were in the amateur field led by Chris Griffin (Paducah, Ky.) who placed fourth in the championship flight with scores of 69-71=140 and shared it with Josh Rhodes (Paducah, Ky.) who had scores of 71-69=140. Jason Lancaster (Mayfield, Ky.) was fourth in the first flight with scores of 73-72=145. Jeremy Grantham (Mayfield, Ky.) won the second flight with scores of 80-68=148, while Josh Burks (Murray, Ky.) placed third with scores of 76-76=151. Joe Scholl (Benton, Ky.) placed 10th with scores of 77-82=159.
Former Racers from other sports also participated. Former MSU football player, Shane Andrus (Murray, Ky.) was fifth in the first flight with scores of 74-72=146, while David Morris (Mayfield, Ky.) was seventh in the second flight with scores of 76-77=153. Former MSU Baseball player Jim Lambert (Paducah, Ky.) placed 11th in the third flight with scores of 83-83=166.
