Racer Golf Has Good Showing At Kentucky Open

Murray State men's golf turned in a good week at the 2012 Kentucky Open played at The Traditions Golf Club in Hebron, Ky.
The Kentucky Open is one of the Commonwealth's signature golf events and matches amateurs against professionals in a 54-hole tournament.
Two current MSU student-athletes, Patrick Newcomb (Benton, Ky.) and Hunter York (Hardin, Ky.) were in the field of 71 that played the event over three days.
Newcomb, a senior for MSU this fall and the low amateur in this event a year ago, placed fourth among amateurs and sixth overall with scores of 72-72-68=212. His next challenge will be competing at the United States Amateur (Aug. 13-19) in Cherry Hills Village, Colo.
York (Hardin, Ky.), also a senior this fall for MSU, finished 52nd after scores of 73-78-75=226.
Three former Racers played the Kentucky Open as professionals. Cameron Carrico (Owensboro, Ky.) had a third place finish after rounds of 69-73-69=211. Nick Newcomb (Benton, Ky.) placed 10th with rounds of 70-72-72=214, while Mitchell Moore (Hopkinsville, Ky.) was 15th with scores of 73-73-71=217. Jerry Price (Louisville, Ky.) was 49th with scores of 74-74-77=225.
Professional Keith Ohr (Louisville, Ky.) was medalist with scores of 69-70-69=208, while Parker Page (Louisville, Ky.) was the top finisher among amateurs with rounds of 72-70-67=209.
The Traditions GC played to a par of 72 this week at a length of 7,103 yards.
