Racers Place Sixth At Drake Creek Invitational

The Murray State women's golf team came home with a sixth place finish in the fourth annual Drake Creek Invitational at Drake Creek Golf Club in Ledbetter, Ky.
The Racers began the final round one shot behind leader Central Arkansas, but a final round 329 was their undoing. MSU finished with scores of 302-298-329=929 for a spot in sixth place in the field of 11 teams.
MSU's Alexandra Lennartsson finished 10th place for the Racers with scores of 73-75-79=227, while Delaney Howson turned in scores of 75-73-81=229 for a spot in 13th. Alli Weaver and Abbi Stamper placed 29th. Weaver had scores of 77-73-88=238, while Stamper had scores of 77-77-84=238. Sophie Hillier placed 48th with rounds of 83-84-85=252.
Gina Nuzzo and Ashlyn Bechtold played the event for the Racers as individuals. Nuzzo had scores of 81-79-84=244 to finish 37th, while Bechtold was in 49th place with scores of 87-81-86=254.
Central Arkansas won the event with a total of 906, ahead of runner up Arkansas State (911), Belmont (919), Columbia (922) and Southern Illinois (927) which made up the top-5. After the Racers in sixth place, the rest of the field was made up by Austin Peay (934), Drake (958), Northern Iowa (963), Jackson State (1011) and Tennessee State (1152).
Central Arkansas' Julia Roth and Arkansas State's Anna Carling staged a seven-hole sudden death playoff for medalist honors. The 18th hole at Drake Creek was the only hole used, where Roth finally won with a par on the seventh time through.
The Drake Creek course played to a par-72 and 6,178 yards for the event.
The Racers are now off until they compete at the APSU Invitational (Oct. 15-16) at Clarksville Country Club.
