Rifle Opens Season on Sunday at Pat Spurgin Range

The eighth-ranked Murray State rifle team begins the 2012-13 season Sunday morning with a triangular meet hosted at Pat Spurgin Range. The meet begins at 9 a.m.
UT Martin and Columbus State will be the Racers' opponents on Sunday. UT Martin comes into the weekend ranked 20th in the country, while Columbus State is 16th.
The Racers have a great mix of newcomers and veteran leadership this season. Seniors Caroline Barber and Bill Harvey lead MSU into the year. The Racers return all-OVC Second Team and OVC Newcomer Team member in Kelsey Emme. Emme competed as an individual at the NCAA Championships last season in air rifle and placed 10th.
Freshmen Hannah Harris, Tessa Howald, Ryan Limpus and Kaitlyn Wilson join returners Michael Burzynski, Kirsten Moyer and Marisca Mozeleski on this year's Racer rifle squad.
The Racers are led by head coach Allan Lollar who enters his sixth season with the Racers. Last season, Lollar led Murray State to a third-place finish in the OVC. In his first five seasons at MSU, Lollar has led the Racers to back-to-back OVC titles, has produced seven All-Americans and three OVC Rifle Athletes of the Year.
Murray state will have five home events this season, including hosting the NCAA Qualifier on Feb. 16. The OVC Championships will be held at Morehead State this season.
The Racers are 5-0 in season openers under Lollar, having won each of the last five seasons against UT Martin.
