Softball Tabbed Third in East Division in OVC Preseason Poll

The Murray State softball team was picked to finish third in the east division of the Ohio Valley Conference, according to the annual preseason poll of the league's softball coaches and sports information directors that was released on Wednesday.
The third place finish is the highest-ever for the Racers, as they had previously been picked seventh in 2012 and 2011 and eighth in 2010, prior to the OVC switching to the divisional format. This is also the first time in program history that MSU received any first-place votes in the poll, notching three this season.
UT Martin took first in the east division in the poll, while Eastern Illinois was picked second. SIU Edwardsville finished behind the Racers in fourth, while Southeast Missouri and Austin Peay rounded out the division in fifth and sixth, respectively.
In the west, Jacksonville State got the top honors first with Tennessee Tech taking second and Eastern Kentucky getting third. Morehead State was picked fourth in the division, with Belmont and Tennessee State taking fifth and sixth, respectively.
The 2013 season will begin a new era for Racer softball, as Kara Amundson takes the reins of a program that went 34-21 last season and finished third at the OVC championship tournament. Murray State will return seven of nine starters from last year's team, including OVC Freshman of the Year Casey Castile, All-OVC selection Shelby Kosmecki and OVC All-Newcomer honoree Mo Ramsey.
The Racers will kick-off their quest for their first-ever OVC title on February 15 against Western Kentucky as part of Mississippi State's Bulldog Battle in Starkville. Fans will get their first look at the new on-campus Racer Field when MSU launches its OVC campaign against Southeast Missouri on March 16.

2. Eastern Illinois (Six first-place votes) – 111
