The Murray State softball team welcomed back former Racers Sunday with its first-ever Alumnae Game. The game closed out a weekend full of events as part of the annual MSU homecoming festivities.
Ten former softball student-athletes made the pilgrimage to Murray for the event from all parts of the country, including as far as California. Four members of the classes of 2011 and 2013 participated in the contest, while two members of the class of 2012 were on hand.
"It was an incredible opportunity to finally host the first Alumnae Game for the Racer Softball," said head coach Kara Amundson after the game. Â "We have had some amazing talent and people graduate and compete for this program and they truly set a foundation for future Racers. Â It was also great being able to show them our new facility and give them a chance to play on the new field. Â I am already looking forward to next year's game."
The game was also the final event of the Racers' fall season, as they now turn their attention to preparation for the spring. The 2014 edition of the MSU softball team will make its debut Feb. 7-9 at the Tiger Classic hosted by LSU. While in Baton Rouge, the Racers will take on Central Arkansas, Minnesota, Oklahoma State, Southern Illinois and the host Tigers.
