Golden Boys Take Series Opener

Tyler Hardin broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the seventh with an RBI double to left field to give The Golden Boys a 3-1 victory in the first game of the Navy-Gold World Series Friday afternoon at Reagan Field.
Derek Yoder and Rick Linton started the rally with back-to-back singles. After a flyout, Hardin drove in the game winner with the opposite-field double. Ty Stetson added an insurance run with an RBI single to left center.
Gold jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the second inning as Clay Kelly delivered a sacrifice fly to center field. Kollin Dowdy started the inning with a base hit before two hit batters loaded the bases ahead of Kelly.
The Navy Train tied the game in the bottom of the sixth as Tyler Lawrence drew a leadoff walk and was sacrificed to second. Two batters later, Matt Johnson drove in the runner with a single to left field.
Cashtyn DeLeeuw picked up the victory after allowing just one run three hits over six innings. Cameron Wallace earned the save after allowing a hit and striking out one in his one inning of work.
Navy starter Cameron Finch did not factor into the decision after surrendering just one run on three hits and two strikeouts over six innings.
The two teams will play the middle game of the three-game series Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
