Ten Earn NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete Honors

A program-high 10 Murray State softball student-athletes have been honored by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association as All-America Scholar-Athletes for the 2012-2013 academic year, the organization announced Monday.
Recent graduates Sarah Anderson, Shelby Kosmecki and Ellyn Troup, senior Leslie Bridges, juniors Alexa Becker, Casey Castile, CheyAnne Gaskey and Mallory Richardson, and sophomores J.J. Francis and Erica Howard all earned the prestigious honor from the Association. To have been eligible for the award, a player must have posted a 3.5 GPA or better for the 2012-13 academic year.
Over 4,000 student-athletes from seven different categories were recognized this season, representing over 600 different institutions. This year, Division I led the way in total schools honored with 160.
The individual awards come on the heels of the announcement of Murray State's best ever finish in the Top 10 All-Academic rankings for Division I in September. The Racers finished last season with a team GPA of 3.569, good enough for third place in all of Division I.
