Howard Sets Tournament Low at Skyhawk Classic

RESULTS
The Murray State University men's golf team took third place after the final round of the Skyhawk Fall Classic at Paris Landing State Park in Buchanan, Tenn. The Racers had scores of 285-285-292=862 to finish behind tournament winner Lee University (840) and UT Martin (847).
Jordan Smith led the Racers with scores of 72-69-71=212 for seventh place in the field of 87 competitors. Close behind was Jared Gosser who carded scores of 68-72-73=213 for 10th place, while Duncan McCormick placed 26th with scores of 71-72-74=217. In 43rd place, Preston French carded scores of 75-72-74=221 and T.J. Ferry rounded out the Racers in 61st place with scores of 74-76-74=224.
After an impressive third round, Chasten Howard had the lowest round score of the tournament finishing with scores of 72-74-66=212 for 7th place for the Murray State gold team. Matt Zakutney carded scores of 69-73-75=217 to end the tournament in 26th place, while Daniel Harper had scores of 72-75-71=218 for 31st place. Brock Simmons rounded out team gold in 43rd place after scores of 76-72-73=221.
Other team scores included Southern Illinois (864), John A. Logan (866), Jackson State (867), Alabama State (869), Austin Peay (870), Dalton State (876), Union University (877), IPFW (880), UT Martin Orange (883), Christian Brothers (884), Tennessee State (892) and Bethel College (932).
Paris Landing is a par-72 course and plays at 6,685 yards.
The Racers have a short break before traveling to the 2013 Austin Peay Intercollegiate on Oct. 14-15 at the Links at Novadell in Hokinsville, Ky.
