Murray State head baseball coach Rob McDonald announced the signing of infielder Kipp Moore and outfielder Quentin Urban (pronounced ER-bon) to National Letters of Intent to attend the University and begin playing baseball for the Breds in the Fall of 2014.
"We are very excited to welcome Kipp and Quentin to the Breds program," said McDonald. "They are both high-quality athletes that will be able to compete for playing time immediately."
Moore (6-1, 170) will join the Breds after closing out a standout career at Shelby County High School. He is ranked the 32nd-best player in Kentucky by Prep Baseball Report. Moore is a three-time All-Region 8 selection, and enters his final season with a career .383 batting average, 135 runs scored and 101 stolen bases.
"I have been coaching baseball since 1997 and hands down, Kipp has the best baseball IQ I have ever coached," said Shelby County Head Coach Bart Roettger. "I am very proud that a kid with the makeup of a student-athlete like Kipp gets rewarded with the great opportunity of playing Division I baseball at Murray State. His presence at the top of our lineup the last three years has provided our lineup with arguably one of the best leadoff hitters in the state. His ability to get on base and put himself in position to score runs makes him a huge weapon. Defensively, Kipp's hands and baseball intelligence make him a nice staple of our middle infield."
As a junior, Moore hit .357 with 11 doubles, three triples, two home runs, 24 RBIs and 34 stolen bases. He set career highs in several categories as a sophomore, including hitting .411 with six triples, 36 stolen bases and 49 runs scored.
Urban (5-9, 194) will come to MSU after playing the 2014 season at Sinclair Community College. The Omaha, Neb., native spent his first two years at Nebraska. He redshirted the 2012 season before missing the majority of the 2013 season with an injury.
"We are very excited that Quentin has chosen to sign at Murray State," said Sinclair Community College Head Coach Steve Dintaman. "Since he arrived this fall, Quentin has been a leader on and off the field. He is a tireless worker and we expect big things from him this Spring at Sinclair."
Urban played his prep ball for head coach Greg Geary at Millard South High School. He was an All-Nebraska selection in both baseball and football. He hit .464 as a senior in helping the Patriots to the No. 2 seed in Class A state tournament. In 82 career high school games, Urban hit .386 with 101 runs scored, 58 RBIs, 18 doubles, seven triples, seven home runs 38 stolen bases and a .575 on-base percentage.
The Breds open the 2014 season on Feb. 14-16 as they welcome Illinois State to Reagan Field.
