Racers Begin Play At Mission Inn Spring Spectacular

The Murray State men's golf team had a spot in eighth place in a field of 18 teams at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular in Orlando, Fla.
The Racers were led in the first day of play by seniors Hunter York and Patrick Newcomb who were 12th and 16th in a field of 116 competitors after 36 holes of play.
York had rounds of 74-71=145, while Newcomb carded scores of 72-74=146. MSU's Tyler Brown had scores of 77-77=154 and was in 56th place while freshmen Preston French and Duncan McCormick shared 61st place. French had scores of 80-75=155, while McCormick had 79-76=155.
The Racers' scores of 302-296=598 earned a spot in eighth place ahead of ninth place Hartford (609) and 10th place Towson (611) and just behind seventh place Appalachian State (594) and sixth place Old Dominican (592). The top-5 included leader Purdue (577), Indiana (578), Florida Atlantic (585), Georgia State (585), Virginia Tech (587). The rest of the field was made up by 11th place Morehead State (612), Marquette (612), host George Mason (616), Western Illinois (619), Northern Illinois (620), Connecticut (623), Stetson (624) and Rutgers (634).
MSU has Jared Gosser playing the event as an individual and he was in 81st place with scores of 79-80=159.
The 54-hole event finishes Sunday at Mission Inn Resort. Play is conducted on the Las Colinas course that is playing to a par of 72 and 6,970 yards.
