Women's Tennis Dominates in OVC Opener

The Murray State women's tennis team opened up OVC play on Saturday with a dominant 7-0 victory over Morehead State at Bennie Purcell Courts.
The Racers (4-5, 1-0 OVC) dominated singles play in the match, as Megan Blue and Carolyn Huerth didn't relinquish a set, claiming 6-0, 6-0 victories at number three and five, respectively. Erin Patton defeated Sandrine Beaule 6-2, 6-0 at number four and Suzaan Stoltz won at number five singles, 7-5 and 6-0.
Carla Suga and Ashley Canty were impressive as well for the Racers at number one and two, respectively. Suga picked up a 6-2, 7-6 win over Victoria Cran, while Canty won her match 6-2 and 7-5. Blue, Patton and Suga all improved their dual singles records to 5-4, while Huerth improved to 5-3 on the season.
MSU took care of business to open the match in doubles play as well, sweeping the matches. At number two doubles, the team of Blue and Suga won 8-2 and at number three, Patton and Stoltz came out with an 8-3 victory. The duo of Canty and Huerth were leading their match 6-3 before it was called after the Racers had secured the doubles point in the match.
The Racers improved to 27-10 all-time in conference openers with the victory. While Head Coach Olga Elkin became the seventh Racer at the helm to win their conference debut.
Next up, Murray State will host Eastern Kentucky on Sunday. Weather permitting the match will begin at 10 a.m. at Bennie Purcell Courts. If the courts are unplayable, the match will be moved to the Kenlake Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
