Racer Golf Takes Lead At Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate

The Murray State women's golf team had a spot in first place after the first round of the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate being played at the Sevierville Golf Club in Sevierville, Tenn.
The field of 11 teams had play halted yesterday because of rain in the Smoky Mountains, so they came back Tuesday morning to finish the first 18.
The Racer's 314 was one shot up on Tennessee Tech (315) and Southern Illinois (317).
Delaney Howson and Alli Weaver paced the Racers each with a 75, while Abbi Stamper added an 81. Alexandra Lennartsson and Sophie Hillier each had 83.
Howson and Weaver shared the medalist lead for the field of 70 players ahead of TTU's Madalyn Everts and Amber Shepherd who each carded a 76.
The rest of the top-7 included fourth place Lee (318), Eastern Kentucky (321), Newberry (321) and Belmont (324). Eighth place Evansville (330), Austin Peay (333), Northern Iowa (333), Northern Kentucky (338) and Presbyterian (338) made up the rest of the field.
The event hosted by Tennessee Tech will wrap up with the final 18 holes being played Tuesday afternoon. The Highlands Course at Sevierville GC is playing to a distance of 5,802 yards and to a par of 71.
The event is being held in honor of the late Bobby Nichols who first coached the TTU men's golf program in the late 1970's and started the TTU women's program in 1986. Bobby Nichols, who died in 2008 from cancer at the age of 66, is in both the TTU and Ohio Valley Conference Hall of Fame.
