Sophomore Alexa Becker of Murray State has been named as the adidas® OVC Co-Player of the Week for games played March 18-24, the league office announced on Monday. SIU Edwardsville's Alex McDavid was this week's other co-honoree.
The Breese, Ill., native went 7-for-15 last week with a .467 average over five games. She ended the week with five runs, six RBIs, two home runs and a stolen base.
Becker, a shortstop, homered in each OVC series for the Racers this past weekend and helped lift their OVC mark to 5-1 on the season with doubleheader sweeps at Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State. In game one at Jacksonville State, Becker went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with one run, one home run and five RBIs. She also posted an on-base percentage of .500, a slugging percentage of .867 and struck out only once over the five-game span.
The award marks the first time a Racer has won the honor this season and the seventh time in program history. As this is her second time earning the award since arriving in Murray, Becker is now tied with Jenna Bradley and Lauren Buch for most honors all-time over a MSU career
This week, Becker and the rest of the Racers will travel to Evansville on Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader with the Purple Aces. First-pitch from Cooper Stadium is slated for 2 p.m.
