Newcomb Surges To 5th At FAU Event - Racers 6th

The Murray State men's golf team improved by five shots and had a spot in seventh place at the FAU Spring Break Championship. The 54-hole event is being played at the Fountains Country Club North Course in Boca Raton, Fla.
The Racers had a 291 after a 296 in round one on Friday for a 587 total which put them in a seventh-place tie with Jacksonville State and one shot behind sixth place Miami (OH) at 586.
Patrick Newcomb jumped to a share of fifth place with a 4-under-par 67 in round two for a 141 total. Newcomb had a 74 in round.
Jared Gosser was in 16th place in the field of 96 players after rounds of 72-73=145, while Hunter York had a spot in 21st place with round of 74-73=147. Tyler Brown was in 65th place with scores of 77-78=155, while Preston French was in 70th place with scores of 76-80=156.
Central Florida was the leader at 571 after their 282 gave them an eight-shot lead over Hartford (579). Host Florida Atlantic (581) was in third place with Bethune-Cookman (583) and Florida Gulf Coast (585) making up the top five.
After the Racers and JSU at 587, the rest of the field was made up by McNeese State (589), DePaul (590), Connecticut (596), Loyola-Chicago (598), Lafayette (608), Northern Illinois (612), Morehead State (613), FAU B-team (614), Stetson (623) and Lafayette B-team (646).
The Fountains North Course is playing to a par of 71 and 6,876.
Round three is set for Sunday.
