The Murray State women's tennis team travels to Paducah this weekend for the OVC Tennis Championships at the Heflin Tennis Center. The tournament is hosted this season by Austin Peay.
The Racers will be the No. 3 seed in this year's tournament and will face off with sixth-seeded Belmont at 10 a.m. on Friday. Murray State ended the regular season going 11-8 overall and 8-2 in OVC play. Back on April 6 the Racers defeated Belmont 4-1 in Nashville.
After winning the doubles point against the Bruins, MSU took three of the first four singles matches to clinch the victory. Ashley Canty was victorious at number one singles 6-3 and 6-1, Carla Suga won at number two 6-3 and 6-3. Suzaan Stoltz won at number six 6-2 and 6-4 to give the Racers their other singles win in the match.
The Racers come into the championships having won seven of their last eight matches. If Murray State wins Friday it will move on to face No. 2 seed Jacksonville State on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Dating back to the 1995-96 season, when the OVC switched from an individual point system to a team tournament format, the Racers are 28-15 overall and have won four titles.
