Softball Contruction Update #5
Construction of the new on-campus softball field has reached its final stages. The biggest recent development is the installation of the brand new scoreboard. Sod has also been laid to fill in some open spaces and the outfield is now fully covered in grass.
The dugouts are nearly finished and are just awaiting the installation of seating and shelving. Work is now underway on the bullpens and is also continuing on the batting cages. Poles have also been installed that will hold a net protecting cars parked just outside the left field line.
While the finish line is in sight, there are still several things that need to be completed before the field is playable. The gravel on the warning track needs to be installed, as well as nets all around the field. Protective padding still needs to be installed on the fence in the outfield and the bullpens and batting cages still need to be completed.
With the opening of the new field drawing closer, head coach Kara Amundson knows that it means big things for her program. “It is an exciting time for Racer Softball to see the continued construction and progress of our new field on campus,” said Amundson. “This field is something that our softball program, our softball alumni, and the Murray State community will be able to take great pride in. I can't say enough how much I appreciate the tremendous support from Mr. Ward and President Dunn in making this field a reality for our program.”
