Newcomb & York Named All-OVC - French All-OVC Newcomer Team

Murray State landed three student-athletes on the various All-Ohio Valley Conference Men's Golf Team during the annual awards banquet at Greystone Golf Club in Dickson, Tenn.
Awards were handed out after the first round of the OVC Championship Thursday evening.
The Racers saw Patrick Newcomb and Hunter York earn All-OVC honors, while freshman Preston French was named to the All-OVC Newcomer Team.
Newcomb, a senior from Benton, Ky., is the reigning OVC Player of the Year from 2012 and makes All-OVC for a second straight season. He was also named to the OVC Newcomer Team as a freshman in 2010. Newcomb leads the OVC with a 71.6 scoring average which has led him to six top-5 finishes as a senior with two wins.
Newcomb is the sixth Racer to earn multiple All-OVC awards following in the footsteps of his Brother, Nick, who was All-OVC three times from 2008-2010. Other Racers who were multiple All-OVC picks include: Chris Pigott (1971-72), Bud Ward (1984, 1986), Kyle Shirley (2005-06) and Cameron Carrico (2008-2011) who is the only Racer to earn four All-OVC honors.
York, a senior from Hardin, Ky., is a former teammate with Newcomb at Marshall County High School and took a different route to become an All-OVC performer. Before earning All-OVC Newcomer honors last season, York was a walk-on trying to make the team. Once he made it into the starting lineup in 2010, he has started 33 straight events for the Racers. This season he ranks eighth in the OVC with a scoring average of 73.3.
French, a freshman from Lexington, Ky., is the sixth at MSU to earn a spot on the All-OVC Newcomer team and ranks 20th this season in the OVC at 74.9 strokes per round. He started all 12 events this season for the Racers and turned in five top-15 finishes.
The All-OVC team was comprised of one 10-person squad this season instead of two five-member teams as done in past seasons.
The OVC Player and Coach of the Year awards will be announced Saturday afternoon following the final round of play at the Championship.
