Women's Basketball Adds Wright & Lee To 2013 Class

Murray State head women's basketball coach Rob Cross has announced the addition of two transfers to his 2013 class. LeAsia Wright and Jashae Lee have both signed to play with the Racers. Wright will be transferring from Western Kentucky, while Lee comes to MSU from New Mexico Junior College.
Wright, a 5-8 guard from Louisville, Ky., played in 31 of 33 games for the Lady Toppers last season with two starts. She finished the 2012-13 campaign averaging 3.3 points and 1.9 rebounds per game, while shooting 38.6 percent from the field.
In high school, Wright helped lead DuPont Manual to the Kentucky state championship as a senior. She averaged 9.7 points and 3.4 rebounds in her final season with the Crimsons, including a 15.5 point average in the state tournament and a 21 point, six rebound performance in the championship game. For her efforts in her senior year, she was named as Kentucky AP All-State selection, a Houchens Industries/KHSAA Girls Sweet Sixteen All-Tournament honoree, as well as a Kentucky All-Star selection.
Due to NCAA transfer rules, Wright must sit out the 2013-14 season, but will be a redshirt sophomore when she is eligible to play during the 2014-15 season. Although she will not be able to play in any games for MSU next season, Wright will be able to participate in team practices.
Cross On Wright: "We are thrilled to be able to add a transfer with LeAsia's ability and character to the Racer family. LeAsia is an outstanding athlete with great quickness and explosion. She is a powerful point guard who looks to set up her teammates first but can score as well. She led her DuPont Manual team to a Sweet Sixteen championship as a senior and started some games for a very good Western Kentucky team this past season. As a high energy defender she will step in and contribute on both ends of the floor when she hits the court as a Racer."
Lee, a 5-9 guard/forward from Rialto, Calif., spent last season at New Mexico Junior College after sitting out her freshman year at Cal Poly due to injury. She featured in all 28 games for the Thunderbirds this past season and finished the year with an average of 11 points and seven rebounds per game. Following the season, she was named to WJCAC All-Conference and All-Region V teams.
In high school, she helped lead the Sultana Lady Sultans to three straight conference championship in her final three years, as well a runner-up finish in her freshman season. Lee averaged 18.5 points a game in her senior year and left Sultana with eight school records, a California all-state selection and three Mojave River Valley Player of the Year honors.
Cross On Lee: "Jashae will bring a good maturity level to our team this season for a sophomore. She is a young woman of tremendous character and has very good leadership qualities. She has played four positions in her career so far and we believe she is capable of doing that in the OVC. She is a power guard that can step out and shoot with range or score in the post. She also has a good basketball IQ and can be a very good defender."
