Junior Delaney Howson was honored for her excellence both on the links and in the classroom on Thursday when she was named to the Capital One Academic All-District team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Howson led the Racers in 2013 with a 76.1 average, the second best in the OVC. She won two tournaments in 2012, had five Top 5, eight Top 10 and nine Top 20 finishes. Her two wins came in consecutive fashion, winning the Time Warner Racer Classic out of 43 players and the Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate out of 73 players in back-to-back weeks.
The Newmarket, Ontario native is a two-time OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient and was named to the All-OVC team for the third consecutive year this season. She was also a two-time adidas® Female Golfer of the Week during the 2012-13 campaign.
Howson won the award in the at-large category in District 2 which covers all student-athletes that participate in women's bowling, women's crew, women's fencing, women's field hockey, women's golf, women's gymnastics, women's ice hockey, women's lacrosse, women's rifle, women's skiing, women's swimming, women's tennis and women's water polo at schools located in the District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
The junior was also the only OVC student-athlete in any sport to earn the distinguished honor this season. Southeast Missouri's Emma Garrett was also a recipient this year for women's gymnastics, however the Redhawks compete in the Midwest Independent Conference in gymnastics since the OVC does not sponsor that sport.
Howson is now eligible to be named to one of three Capital One Academic All-American teams. The 2013 At-Large Division I Capital One All-American teams will be announced on Thursday, June 6.
