Pratt Named OVC Athlete of the Championship

Murray State sophomore track and field athlete Tonia Pratt was named the OVC's Female Athlete of the Championship on Thursday by the league's coaches.

Pratt, who won both the hammer throw and discus at last weekend's OVC Outdoor Championships, also took third in the shot put for the Racers. Pratt went on to set a new OVC record Saturday in the hammer throw with a toss of 176'-7”. Pratt also recorded a throw of 152'-3” in the discus on day one, which is the fourth-best throw in school history.

Pratt accounted for 26 points at the meet in helping lead the Racers to a second-place finish at the championships. It was MSU's best team finish since 1994. Pratt became the second consecutive winner for the Racers. Alexis Love was named Athlete of the Championship last season.

Pratt, along with Love and Sharda Bettis will travel to Louisville Friday for the Louisville Twilight. All three will look to solidify qualifications for the NCAA regionals.
