Howson & Hillier Named WGCA All-American Scholars

Murray State student-athletes Delaney Howson and Sophie Hillier were recently named as Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars.
Â
The list of 664 outstanding student-athletes spanning all levels of NCAA Women's Golf, was released from the WGCA home office in Coral Springs, Fla., on July 1.

Howson (Newmarket, Ontario) will be a senior in the fall for MSU Head Coach Velvet Milkman and Hillier (Sandy, England) will be a sophomore.

Howson is majoring in finance and Hillier in accounting.
Â
"I am very proud of the honor that Delaney and Sophie have received," Milkman said. "They're the epitome of true student-athletes that strive for excellence both on the golf course and in the class room. They are excellent representatives of Murray State University and are very deserving of this award."

Criteria for selection to the WGCA All-American Scholar Team include having a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50.

Howson led the Racers in 2013 with a 76.1 average (second in the OVC) and was named All-Ohio Valley Conference for a third straight season. She is a two-time OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll recipient and was recently named to the Capital One Academic All-District team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Hillier competed in 12 events with the Racers in her freshman season. Â

There were 26 student-athletes from the OVC that were named to the WGCA All-American Scholars list.
